Confirmation (6th-8th Grade)
Each week, 6th-8th graders gather before church at 9:00 AM as a small group. Pastor Micah will lead them through a time of teaching, Scripture reading, reflection, and fun! Confirmation is a three-year program that covers the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism.
6th and 7th graders will go through one year on the Bible and one year on the Catechism. Here is what to expect:
Bible Year - 6th or 7th grade
One of the most important things we can do as Christians is understand the Holy Scriptures. God’s Word is living and active. God continues to speak to us through His Word, and nothing in it will ever pass away. Because of this, confirmation students will spend one year going through the whole Bible. As they become Biblically literate, they will be better able to understand their faith, how God speaks to them, and see how God’s Word is one connecting narrative from beginning to end!
Catechism Year - 6th or 7th grade
As Scripture says, we are saved by faith through the unmerited grace of God. Therefore, it is important to understand what this gift of faith means to us. During this year, students will go through the six chief parts of the Catechism and Christian life. These are the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Confession & Absolution, and The Sacrament of the Altar (Communion). Understanding these important parts of the Christian life will help these students to see God’s grace in a multiplicity of ways. Understanding God’s grace in these ways helps us to be strengthened in our faith.
Reflection Year - 8th Graders
After the students have done both the Bible and Catechism year, they will do one year of reflection with a confirmation journal. This journal is designed to be completed with parents at home. During this time, parents and their child will read Scripture, reflect on their faith, pray together, answer questions, attend worship, assist in various church activities, and more. There are eight sessions in this journal. Each session is designed to be done over a one-month period. After the session work is completed, the family will meet with the Pastor to discuss what has been learned!
